Malaysian RAPID Project – The Largest Site Ever for Junttan

20.10.2016

Five Junttan PM25 piling rigs have been hammering down over 36.000 piles in the skilled hands of Keller’s subsidiary Ansah Asia in the RAPID project by late September 2016.

Ben Lewis, the Chief Mechanic and Plant Consultant of Keller ASEAN, Ansah is very happy with the Junttan fleet. Efficiency, ease of transportation to and at the site and reliability differentiate Junttan rigs from others equipment comments Ben. He adds that it is impressive how strong the tracks are in the demanding conditions.

After a careful thought Ben was able to identify two challenges with Junttan rigs: electrical problems and overheating due to the very

hot temperatures at the construction sites. Together with the Junttan team, Ben has been able to solve these issues in no time. His preference is to have a site, where only Junttan rigs are used.

Keller’s subsidiary Ansah Asia was awarded piling contracts for the $16bn RAPID project in Johor, Malaysia in June 2015. The total number of piles in the RAPID project is estimated to be around 70.000. The Pengerang site is the largest site for Junttan since the Australian Onshore LNG facility Wheatstone project of 23.000 piles.

Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) develops a refinery and petrochemical integrated development project (RAPID) in Pengerang, Southern Johor, Malaysia. The project started in 2012 and is estimated to be completed by early 2019. The project is expected to employ 70,000 workers during construction and create 4,000 new jobs for the Pengerang area, Malaysia. The total area of the project is 7,5 km times 4,5 km (2,000 ha). Southern Johor is located close to suitable deep-water port facilities and regional demand centers. The location ensures easy transport of finished products to the market.
